The Māori Land Court and Māori Appellate Courts are constituted under the Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 and have jurisdiction to hear matters relating to Māori land.

The Māori Land Court has a dual record system; the Paper system and  the Database system (Māori Land Information System, MLIS).

Administering the Legislation

The Māori Land Court is administered by the Ministry of Justice and legislative matters are dealt with by the Minister of Māori Affairs.
