Waiariki | Rotorua

The Māori Land Court Waiariki district covers a land area of approximately 1,936,270 hectares. Of that, 340,179 hectares is Māori Land.

The Waiariki boundaries are from Te Puke in Western Bay of Plenty across to Whangaparaoa in the east and inland to the western shores of Waikaremoana. Across to Taupō and Taumarunui at the southern end, heading north to Mangakino and Tīrau returning across the Mangorewa rangers to Te Puke. 

Population

According to the 2006 Census, the Māori population in the region was 67,662 representing 12% percent of the total New Zealand Māori population. Māori is spoken by 9.6 percent of people in Waiariki.

Graeme

Graeme Vercoe
Ngaitai, Whakatōhea, Ngāti Pikiao and Tūhoe

Graeme joined the Māori Land Court in 2005 as Regional Director in Rotorua. Prior to this he held a number of management positions with the Department of Corrections and Department of Justice, as well as serving with the New Zealand Army for over 20 years until retiring in the rank of substantive Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal NZ Infantry Corps. Graeme was awarded a Queens Service Medal for public services in the 2008 Queens Birthday Honours list.
