Crime Prevention Unit
Current Crime Prevention Delivery
A broad range of government and non-government organisations deliver crime
prevention activities as part of their work. Government agencies include the
Ministry of Social Development (MSD), the Department of Child, Youth and Family
Services (CYFS), the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), New Zealand Police
(Police) and Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ).
Until 2003, the Safer Community Council (SCC) was the primary provider of
community crime prevention services. Since then, most Crime Prevention Unit (CPU)
funding is directed to Territorial Authorities (local councils) who manage local
crime prevention activity. Some Territorial Authorities engage directly in crime
prevention while others contract with local non-government organisations for crime
prevention services. |
