CHECKLIST
Setting up a crime prevention partnership

Identify the need for crime prevention
|
|
|
Define the crime problem. Ask what, where, when, who and how? |
|
|
Identify relevant stakeholders:
- those affected by the crime problem
- those who can help to address it
|
|
|
Combine information from these stakeholders |
|

Identify the need for a partnership
|
|
|
Clarify the need and potential benefits of a partnership |
|
|
Identify potential partners and the mix of skills and experience necessary |
|
|
Talk to potential partners about working together. Make sure community
safety or crime prevention is on their agenda |
|

|
Work with partners to define the aims and objectives
|
|
|
Discuss and agree the partnership’s purpose |
|
|
Establish objectives that will enable the partnership to achieve its aim |
|
|
Agree on a governance structure |
|

|
Work with partners to develop a plan
|
|
|
Allocate responsibilities to each partner |
|
|
Agree performance targets and realistic timeframes |
|
|
Identify the resources required including budget |
|
|
Identify the resources each partner can provide |
|
|
Establish performance management processes including six monthly reviews |
|
|
Formalise these arrangements with a memorandum of understanding, terms of
reference or other formal document |
