Current policy projects

 

Ongoing policy development projects in the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) include:

  • leading policy development and monitoring government and community efforts to meet the Government’s Crime Reduction Strategy (CRS) priorities on offending (Crime Reduction Strategy)
  • reviewing the CRS to assess its effectiveness in achieving crime reduction generally and in each of the CRS goal areas
  • implementation of initiatives to combat community and sexual violence as set out in the Safer Communities Action Plan to reduce community violence and sexual violence (the Action Plan)
  • further development and implementation of the National Vehicle Crime Reduction Programme (NVCRP), including the whole of vehicle marking initiative and the safer car park accreditation scheme
  • development, jointly with New Zealand Police, of a government strategy to combat organised criminal activity (Organised Crime)
