Electoral Administration Reform: Stage Two
The Electoral (Administration) Amendment Act 2011 was passed in August 2011. The Act transfers the functions of the Chief Registrar of Electors to the Electoral Commission on 1 July 2012 and makes other changes to the administration of electoral enrolment.
The transfer of the functions of the Chief Registrar is the second and final stage of the integrated electoral administration reform.
Information about the establishment of the new Electoral Commission
The first stage of the reform was completed with the establishment on 1 October 2010 of the new Electoral Commission, which took on the functions of the Chief Electoral Officer and former Electoral Commission.
