MMP Referendum
The Electoral Referendum Act 2010 provided for an indicative referendum on our voting system to be held in conjunction with the 26 November 2011 General Election. The majority of valid votes cast at the election were to keep the current Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting system. This result triggered a statutory provision requiring the Electoral Commission to review MMP.
On 13 February 2012, the Electoral Commission launched its review of the MMP voting system. It is currently seeking input from the public on possible changes to the way MMP works.
