Appendix 1: List of appeal bodies already recommended for abolition (para. 14)
The Committee proposed that the following tribunals be abolished and their jurisdiction transferred to a District Court Judge. The Committee recommended the abolition of the Deportation Review Tribunal and the transfer of its jurisdiction to the High Court. (See also para 90 of the Report.)
It also recommended the abolition without replacement of two bodies:
(1) the Valuation Appeal Committee administered by the Department of Maori Affairs; the Department advised that the Committee is now defunct; and
(2) the Tramways Appeal Board administered by the Ministry of Works and Development; like the Ministry, the Committee thought these matters could be dealt with under the regular labour law.
