Private Investigator & Security Guard Licencing

The Ministry of Justice is currently responsible for administering the licencing of Private Investigators and Security Guards. This function is carried out at Auckland District Court for the whole of New Zealand.

New scale of fees - Private Investigators and Security Guards Amendment Regulations 2006

The Private Investigators and Security Guards Amendment Regulations 2006 comes into force on 1 July 2006, amending the Private Investigators and Security Guards Regulations 1975.

Schedule 2 has been revoked and a new schedule detailing the amended scale of fees as follows:

From 1 July 2006 Total Fees applying will be

For inspecting any register Nil
On application for the grant of a licence ($100) plus issue fee ($20)
Note = ($110 applicable during the period 1st October to 31st December).

On application for the renewal of a licence ($100) plus issue fee ($20) 120
On application for the grant of a certificate of approval ($60) plus issue fee ($20)
Note = ($70 applicable during the period 1st October to 31st December).

On application for the renewal of a certificate of approval($60) plus issue fee ($20) 80
For the issue of a licence or a certificate of approval - transfer 20
For the issue of a duplicate licence or a duplicate certificate of approval 20
