Referral process for restorative justice pre-sentence cases

In order to ensure that restorative justice providers have access to victim contact information in a manner that respects the victim's right to privacy, the Ministry has developed the following referral process in consultation with restorative justice providers, court staff, and police:

Restorative Justice Facilitator Induction Training and Accreditation

The Ministry provides a restorative justice facilitation training and accreditation programme as part of its commitment to supporting quality restorative justice provision in New Zealand.

Funding

The Ministry operates a standardised funding mechanism to fund community providers contracted to deliver restorative justice services to the criminal courts.

Application for Voluntary provision of restorative justice service

The Ministry has developed an approval process for community groups who wish to provide restorative justice services to the adult criminal court in areas that currently lack a funded restorative justice service.
