A Victims Centre within the Ministry of Justice

The Enhancing Victims' Rights Review identified a number of issues for victims, including:

  • a lack of accessible, detailed information on agency processes
  • confusion over the number of agencies and where to go to for assistance

A Victims Centre will be established to provide oversight of victims’ rights and resources across government agencies. In its establishment phase the Victims Centre will work with agencies to develop and implement a Victims Code.

Communication regarding the Victims Centre will make it clear that its function would be to provide oversight of existing services, rather than duplicating existing services.

More detail on the reforms is provided in the consultation document (PDF, 765KB) and main cabinet paper (PDF, 4.89MB).
