Information on financial assistance for victims of serious crime
This fact sheet provides a summary of the financial assistance funded through the offender levy for people who have been victims of a serious crime such as serious assault, home invasion, kidnapping and arson. For people affected by homicide or by death caused by a crime, or victims of sexual assault please refer to the appropriate link for the full range of assistance.
Victims or their support agency/people should contact the organisation which administers the grants for further information and assistance with applications.

Expenses for attending court and other hearings

Assistance with travel-related costs (including travel, childcare, accommodation and meals) for attendance at court hearings and other hearings or meetings such as Parole Board hearings, restorative justice meetings, coronial hearings and meetings with victim advisors. Attendance at videoconferences is also included. |
The victim and one support person (the grant does not apply for support people who are supporting in a paid role). The person applying for the grant must be 18 years old or over. |

Contact Victim Support. Travel can be pre-booked through Victim Support. Otherwise receipts must be provided for reimbursement. Personal car use will be reimbursed at a set rate. |

Last resort assistance for those in financial hardship. This grant covers costs such as counselling, relocation and other costs to assist healing and safety. |
Victims who qualify for a community services card and who have already approached WINZ and ACC. | Up to $2,000 per victim. |
