Career Services

ACTS ADMINISTERED

Career Services is a Crown agent and was established on 23 July 1990 under the provisions of the Education Act 1989 and the Education Amendment Act 1993.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Career Services is established to assist in the achievement of government education, training and employment goals through the provision of high-quality career information, advice and guidance services. These services are designed to assist people to make informed career choices through:

  • The production, dissemination and interpretation of up-to-date, independent, accurate career information via a variety of access channels;
  • Liaison with, and assessment of the needs of, users of career information;
  • The provision of training and support in the application and use of this information;
  • The provision of support services to promote a careers focus across the secondary school curriculum; and
  • Access to Career Services career information, advice and guidance through web-based, phone-based and in-person services and resources.

STRUCTURE

Career Services is governed by a ministerially appointed Board and the daily operations are managed by a Chief Executive.

Career Services has a national office in Wellington. Its website and resources teams and national contact centre are also based in Wellington. Services are also provided from 17 locations throughout New Zealand.
