How to Use the Directory

The Directory has individual entries for the Government departments, Crown entities, State-owned enterprises and other organisations which, at the date of publication, are subject to the Official Information Act 1982. Where appropriate, organisations have included the names of any statutory or advisory committees which they administer.

Each entry was contributed by, and is the responsibility of, the organisation concerned. The spelling of Maori language words reflect regional variation in spelling and in use of macrons, as preferred by the organisations concerned; similar accommodation has been made for corporate preferences in some of the English language submissions. Entries are correct as at September 2001, but information should not be treated as definitive because changes occur continually.

The Directory is also available on the Ministry of Justice Website: www.justice.govt.nz

ALPHABETICAL LIST OF ENTRIES

This lists each separate entry alphabetically by the main subject word, eg, 'Conservation, Department of', or 'Film Commission, New Zealand'. All organisations beginning with New Zealand have been listed under their core name and not under "N" listing, for eg, New Zealand Post is under "P" listing etc.

Entries for individual crown research institutes, district health boards and community arts providers, polytechnics, colleges of education and universities are grouped under the main subject heading.

ENTRIES

Each entry follows the same format. The information is arranged under the following headings, as applicable:

MINISTERIAL OFFICES

An alphabetical list of the Ministerial offices of Government is included.

ORGANISATIONAL CHANGES

This list comprises the organisations which, since the 1999-2001 Directory, have ceased to require an entry or appear under a different name.
