New Zealand's sexual offences
New Zealand's definition of sexual offences includes:
- Sexual affronts (distribution or exhibition of indecent matter, indecent act in
public place, indecent act with intent to insult or offend, indecent exposure)
- Sexual attacks (abduction for marriage or sex, indecent assaults, inducing sexual
connection by coercion, sexual violation by rape or unlawful sexual connection, attempt to
commit sexual violation, assault attempt to commit sexual violation, sexual intercourse
with girl under care or protection, sex offence against male victim (Crimes Act
1961))
- Abnormal sex (incest, bestiality, indecency with animal, compelling indecent act
with animal)
- Immoral behaviour/miscellaneous (unlawful sexual intercourse, attempted unlawful
sexual intercourse, indecent assaults, indecency (female-female), indecency (male-female),
indecency (male-male), conspiracy to endure sexual intercourse, brothels and prostitution,
publish breaches, miscellaneous immoral behaviour offences, woman on wharf or ship, child
sex tours offences)
Table 2 provides the rates of crime per 100,000 population for each of the New Zealand
sexual offence categories. This information was taken from the Office of the Police
Commissioner March 2002 document "Police Statistics 2001: A summary of recorded and
resolved offences".
