What is the YJIAG

The Youth Justice Independent Advisory Group (YJIAG) was established in 2003. The group aims to assist in overseeing the delivery and implementation of the Youth Offending Strategy, by providing an "out of government" forum for discussing initiatives and developments in the youth justice sector. The YJIAG develops independent, community-based advice to Ministers. The Group also provides feedback on policy and initiatives to Ministers and to senior government officials.

Members of the YJIAG are Ministerially appointed and they meet bi-monthly in Wellington. Secretariat and administrative functions are provided by the Ministry of Justice.
