Family Violence Summit

"Family Violence is a complex issue in New Zealand with no single solution. We are making it our priority to help reduce the rate of family violence in New Zealand."
Hon Amy Adams, Minister of Justice

"We want to draw on the expertise of NGOs and the frontline sector to inform our efforts to build a more integrated system and break the cycle of violence."
Hon Anne Tolley, Minister for Social Development

A Family Violence Summit was held at Te Wharewaka in Wellington on Wednesday 7 June 2017, chaired by Sir Wira Gardiner and co-hosted by Justice Minister Amy Adams and Social Development Minister Anne Tolley.

The Summit was an opportunity for people from across the sector to come together and build on the conversations to date about breaking the patterns of family violence and working together effectively.

Attendees participated in workshops about earlier intervention, supporting vulnerable population groups, helping children and their whānau live without family violence and kaupapa Māori whanau-centred approaches.

It was also a chance to hear from Ministers and key players within the sector as we review ways to develop a more cohesive approach to family violence that better meets the needs of families and communities.
