There’s no fee to apply to the Committee to become a certifying consultant.
The Committee must consult with the New Zealand Medical Association before considering your application.
It costs $68 (including GST) to apply to the Committee for a licence.
Full licence: This licence allows for abortions of any gestation to be carried out in the licensed hospital or clinic.
Limited licence: This licence allows for abortions up to 12 weeks gestation to be carried out in the licensed hospital or clinic.
An abortion licence must be held by a licence holder who is often the person in charge of the hospital or clinic or is in charge of the abortion services within that facility. Abortion licences are for a term of 1 year and can be reapplied for near the end of that term.
If your hospital or clinic would like to apply for a licence to perform abortions, you need to fill in this application form and send it to us:
If you’re already a certifying consultant or an abortion licence holder for a hospital or clinic and need to renew your appointment or licence, contact us for information on how to reapply.
