ANZSOC 2023
ANZSOC provides a common independent classification system for offences across the Justice Sector in New Zealand. It is also used by the Australian Federal and State Police services and Justice Sector.
ANZSOC 2023 is the fourth edition of the classification system. It has been updated to reflect the evolution of criminal offence legislation, language, and social change. The new edition provides better plain-English descriptors, and more detail to make it simpler for those wanting to understand and use criminal justice data.
Ministry of Justice data has been recomputed back to 2015 in most instances, and 1980 for some, according to the 2023 classification to allow for comparisons and trend analysis under the updated standard. That is, data from 2015 onwards is presented as though the 2023 classification had been in use then, making it possible to trace trends continuously since 2015.
