Some members of the public are receiving scam letters from the Taxation Review Authority on Ministry letterhead claiming that other parties' assets are being stored in their trusts. These letters are fake and should be ignored.
The role of the Taxation Review Authority is to resolve disputes about tax assessments or a decision by the Inland Revenue Commissioner. It only contacts people who are using its services and then will only provide letters of acknowledgement and Notice of Hearings. It does not advise people to pay money.
If you are in doubt about a letter from the Taxation Review Authority, another Ministry tribunal or from the Ministry of Justice we advise you to call 04 918 8800.
