Minister's media release: Government Inquiry into handling of Robertson case announced(external link) (10 August 2015)
Justice Minister Amy Adams and Corrections Minister Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga have appointed Mel Smith CNZM to conduct an inquiry(external link) under the provisions of the Inquiries Act 2013 into the handling of the Tony Robertson case. Mr Robertson murdered Blessie Gotingco in May 2014 following his release from prison.
Ministers Adams and Lotu-liga have also released the draft Terms of Reference for the inquiry (PDF, 88.5KB)(external link).
The draft terms of reference focus on the management of Mr Robertson before and after his release from prison, and operational practices relating to the release of high-risk offenders.
The final terms of reference will be published in the New Zealand Gazette(external link) on 13 August 2015 after discussions with Mr Smith.
