Latest justice statistics released

The Ministry of Justice has published its most recent statistics on criminal charges and convictions from 2013 to 2022.

The tables are published every six months. Tier 1 statistics help the Government, researchers, and members of the public obtain a full picture of the justice system.

The statistics contain details on people going through the courts or accessing justice services. The statistics covered include:

  • General justice (including the number of charges and people charged);
  • Children and young people (in Youth Court, in all courts);
  • Specific offence types (such as serious, violent, family violence and sexual offences);
  • Specific justice processes (such as discharged without conviction, outcomes for Mentally Impaired Persons, offending while on bail or at large and name suppression);
  • Family Court (including all Family Court applications, Protection Order applications and adoption); and
  • Justice services (including collections, legal aid and family violence programmes).
