From 1 July 2026, the Ministry of Justice is increasing fees in courts and most Ministry administered tribunals.
This is an inflation adjustment to ensure the fees the Ministry charges better reflect the costs of operating court and tribunal services, and that these services remain financially sustainable. Most court and tribunal fees increase by 2.25% on 1 July 2026. There are two exceptions:
Disputes Tribunal fees for claims over $30,001 will increase by 5.98% to reflect inflation since it was last set in September 2024.
For unit-title disputes, the fee for applying to directly refer a dispute to adjudication, and the maximum total fee payable for a dispute, will be increased by 2.4%. This keeps mediation and adjudication fees aligned with each other, as intended by the regulations.
