Videos for jurors modernised to reflect a more diverse justice system
Every year, thousands of New Zealanders give their time to serve on jury trials.
Jury service is an important way for New Zealanders to contribute to the delivery of justice, and make sure that the justice system is fair for all New Zealanders.
Following feedback from juror surveys, the Ministry has updated and modernised its juror videos to better reflect the diverse communities who use our justice system.
As well as being shorter, the videos are now available in English, te reo Māori, Samoan and Mandarin and include introductions from both the Chief High Court Judge and the Chief District Court Judge.
The videos help to explain the importance of the role of juries, the jury trial process and who jurors may see in the courtroom, including the judge, court staff and lawyers.
The new videos are an important and valuable resource for people summoned as potential jurors, students and general members of the public who want to know more about how jury trials operate.
