About reparation

Overview

A judge can order an offender to pay money to someone who has suffered emotional harm, or whose property has been lost or damaged as a result of a crime. This is called reparation or a court-ordered payment.

The judge decides the amount of the reparation. They will consider how much damage, loss or cost the person has suffered because of the offending. They will also consider the offender’s ability to pay.
