Notice of end of process for making and determining victims’ claims

Below is a list of offenders who have been awarded compensation and the funds have now been paid out:

Joshua Richard Evans; Joshua Richard Tiaki Evans

Pursuant to subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (the Act), compensation awarded to Joshua Richard Evans; Joshua Richard Tiaki Evans was paid to the Secretary for Justice and after making any deductions, the surplus remaining was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on 14 August 2023 on behalf of Joshua Richard Evans; Joshua Richard Tiaki Evans to enable any victims of that offender to make claims against it.

From 7 September 2023 notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 9 September 2023 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Joshua Richard Evans; Joshua Richard Tiaki Evans in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

From 12 July 2023 notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on the website of the Ministry of Justice and on in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

Pursuant to subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (the Act), compensation awarded to Benjamin/Benjimin Short was paid to the Secretary for Justice and after making any deductions, the surplus remaining was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on 26 January 2023 on behalf of Benjamin/Benjimin Short to enable any victims of that offender to make claims against it.

From 2 February 2023 notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 18 February 2023 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Benjamin/Benjimin Short in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.
