Notice of end of process for making and determining victims’ claims

Below is a list of offenders who have been awarded compensation and the funds have now been paid out.

Notices will be removed after a period of 1 month.

Fereti (Freddy) Baice

Pursuant to subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (the Act), compensation awarded to Fereti (Freddy) Baice was paid to the Secretary for Justice and after making any deductions, the surplus remaining was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on 3 September 2020 on behalf of Fereti (Freddy) Baice to enable any victims of that offender to make claims against it.

From 11 September 2020, notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 12 September 2020 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Fereti (Freddy) Baice in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

Donny Niu Falakoa

Pursuant to subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (the Act), compensation awarded to Donny Niu Falakoa. The compensation was paid to the Secretary for Justice and after making any deductions, the surplus remaining was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on 29 April 2020 on behalf of Donny Niu Falakoa to enable any victims of that offender to make claims against it.

From 15 May 2020, notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 16 May 2020 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Donny Niu Falakoa in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

Roger Tira Kahui

TAKE NOTICE that, pursuant to subpart 2 of part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (“the Act”), on 14 February 2020 compensation awarded to Roger Tira Kahui (“the offender”) was paid to the Secretary for Justice and, after certain deductions (if any), the surplus was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on behalf of the offender to enable any victims of the offender to make claims against it.

AND THAT, on 29 February 2020, notice of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money, was published in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin and, on 28 February 2020, was published in the New Zealand Gazette and on the website of the Ministry of Justice.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Roger Tira Kahui in accordance with subpart 2 of part 2 of the Act.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of James Tiopira in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

TAKE NOTICE that, pursuant to subpart 2 of part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (“the Act”), on 5 June 2020 compensation awarded to Katoanga Vea (“the offender”) was paid to the Secretary for Justice and, after certain deductions (if any), the surplus was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on behalf of the offender to enable any victims of the offender to make claims against it.

AND THAT, on 20 June 2020, notice of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money, was published in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin and, on 19 June 2020, was published in the New Zealand Gazette and on the website of the Ministry of Justice.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Katoanga Vea in accordance with subpart 2 of part 2 of the Act.
